Owning a glamorous pool sounds great. While that turquoise pool with irresistible waters is a great way to entertain the guests during a pool party, a weekend family get together or even a summer barbecue party, maintaining a pool should be done properly and regularly. Here are some great tips to maintain your pool.

Chemistry Matters to the Pool

Remember to check your pool’s chemistry once in every 1-2 weeks during winter and 1-2 times a week during the summer season. The pH value of the pool should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8. The lower the pH value on this scale, the less chlorine your pool is going to need. Because the pH value of the pool increases, chlorine in the water starts to be less active. This makes you add more chlorine to the water. This means chlorine in the water at a 7.0 pH level is about 50% active and at an 8.0 pH level chlorine is about 10% active. If you keep the pH level in control, you will have to use much less chlorine in the water.

How Are You Heating Your Pool?

There is nothing like taking a dip in a warm pool after a long day. Especially in the fall. And if you are in a rather cold climate a warm pool can really come in handy. If you want to maintain the temperature of your pool at a higher level at all times, you can always use a heater. But this might surge your electric bill drastically. You can also resort to much cheaper and efficient options such as Solar Pool Heating.

Clean Out the Skimmer Basket(s)

The primary function of the skimmer is to skim the surface of the water in the pool before any contaminants or debris float down to the bottom and become saturated. The skimmer is installed at the side of the pool. There is an access panel on the deck of the pool and you can open it up and dispose of the contents of the skimmer basket as desired. Keep the panel cleaned out at all times.

Keep the Water Level Consistent

The level of the water in your pool needs to be right at the centre of the skimmer or the pool tile. Maintaining the water in the pool at the accurate level will result in optimal performance. If the level is too low, it can run the water pump dry and might burn the pump up. If the level is too high, know that it will result in the skimmer breaking down.

Do A Weekly Wipe and Pat-Down to Reduce Build-Up

Wipe or clean the tile line on a weekly basis to keep the build-up at a minimum level. Keep the pH level in the pool within the required range to make sure the scum lines do not develop. If the pH levels are high the water tends to deposit it on everywhere.

Storing Chemicals for the Pool

Always make sure the chemicals meant for the pool are stored in a way that they do not come into direct contact with sunlight. Store the chemicals in a cool, dry space.
